When one leaf ends up with three baby plants

When my friend and I collected two leaves of a succulent plant in Malta, we didn't know that one of them would rot and the other one would form three tiny baby succulents. The latter outcome was a surprise indeed. Until that moment, I had only seen plants developing on the other side of the leaf (where it had been attached to the origin plant) and was expecting exactly the same thing to happen. Suddenly, three little green structures appeared at the margin and developed into mini-plants.
